1．在传统的中国画教学体系上，以时间为线索，从古代水墨艺术的发端进行展开，着眼于水墨艺术发展过程中的重要节点，串联“理论”与“实践”，在“观念”与“技法”的层面徐徐展开，以作品为例，深入浅出地讨论不同时期不同风格水墨艺术家的作品。
2．着重介绍从19世纪中后期至今的实验性水墨的发展历程，以个案研究的方式深入解析实验性水墨艺术家先驱的精神文化和精神世界，剖析他们的画面观感、基本技法、笔墨特质、形式意味等，总结实验性水墨艺术的笔法与墨法的特色。
3．通过介绍几位当代实验性水墨艺术家在国际化艺术范畴中的身份角色和视觉表现特色，引导学生深入认识和赏析近现代实验性水墨画名家的代表作品，为学生对古老的书画语言如何转化为当代的水墨语言、水墨艺术如何与其他艺术融通共生，提供理论和实践的认知经验。
