培养学术素养是高校人才培养的核心目标之一。 学术素养英语是高校大学英语课程体系的一门重要课程。
学术素养英语侧重学生学术技能的培养和学术范式的养成。该目标，一方面需要教师的技能指导，另一方面需要学生课外大量地实践。学术素养英语正是以慕课的形式呈现给学生，以达到事半功倍的教学效果。
依据项目教学法，学术素养英语慕课以学术项目为主线，提升学术素养为目标，逐级引入听、说、读、写等学术技能，构成单元学习，如听、读学术类资源获取信息的技巧，做学术问卷、有理有据进行学术阐述的能力训练，以及归纳、总结信息，诚信表达学术观点、写规范参考文献的技能。又如批判性思维、创造性思维技能训练等。课程整体为学生架构了完成学术任务的基本过程，同时训练相应的基本学术技能，达成学术素养养成。
